Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Marothon (“Marothon,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and retains information when you use the Marothon mobile app and this website (together, the “Service”). Marothon is a personal TV and movie tracking app. We try to collect only what we need to run the Service.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account email. When you create an account, we collect the email address you sign up with. We use it to authenticate you, secure your account, and send essential account communications.
• Watch history and tracking data. The core of the Service. This includes the movies and shows you track, episodes you mark as watched, your Rot List and watchlists, ratings, progress, and related activity you create in the app.
• Push notification token. If you enable push notifications, we store an Expo push token for your device so we can deliver notifications (for example, when a new episode of a show you track is available). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device or app settings.
• Profile photo. If you choose to add a profile photo, we store the image you upload. Providing a photo is optional.

We do not ask for your real name, location, contacts, or payment information, and we do not sell your personal information.

How we use your information

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To provide the core features of the Service — saving your watch history, Rot List, and progress so you can pick up where you left off.
• To send push notifications you have opted into.
• To display your profile photo within the app.
• To maintain, debug, and improve the Service, and to protect against abuse, fraud, and security issues.
• To comply with legal obligations.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of third-party providers to operate the Service. We share only the information needed for each provider to perform its function.

• Supabase — our backend and database provider. Supabase stores your account, watch history, profile photo, and related data on our behalf. See the Supabase Privacy Policy.
• Expo — our push notification provider. If you enable notifications, Expo processes your push token to deliver messages to your device. See the Expo Privacy Policy.
• The Movie Database (TMDB) — the source of our catalog metadata (titles, posters, episode lists, and similar). We query TMDB for catalog information to display in the app. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See the TMDB Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Marothon and its users.

Data retention

We keep your account information and tracking data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data — including your email, watch history and tracking data, push token, and profile photo — from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Backups are purged on a rolling basis.

How to access or delete your data

You are in control of your data. You can:

• Delete your account and data in the app. Open Settings and choose to delete your account. This removes your account and associated personal data as described above.
• Request access or deletion by email. Contact us at privacy@marothon.com and we will help you access, export, or delete your personal information.
• Turn off notifications at any time in your device or app settings, which stops use of your push token.

Children’s privacy

Marothon is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our backend. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and limit access to it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
